Prepared to face any election, says P.M.

by Ariyaratne Ganegoda

If President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga were to dissolve Parliament to hold another General Election, the UNP is ready to take up that challenge.

If she dissolves all the Provincial Councils on any single day and holds provincial council elections, the UNP will win, said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, addressing the special Executive Committee meeting of the UNP held at "Sirikotha" yesterday. The meeting convened at short notice lasted only a short time. The PM said he was confident that the masses will give his party a fresh mandate to rule the country once again and on the strength of that belief he was prepared to face any election.

Former Kegalle District MP Mano Wijeratne and Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, S. B. Dissanayake and Ravi Karunayake addressed the meeting.
