Govt. allowed Tigers to strengthen their military power - MEP Leader

Maharagama special correspondent, Vehelle Piyathilaka

For the first time in Sri Lankan political history the real Socialists' Left Wing and the Capitalists' Right Wing has been drawn by establishing Eksath Janatha Swadeena Sandanaya (United Peoples' Independent Alliance) recently, said the leader of Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP) and the MP for Colombo District, Dinesh Gunawardhana at the anniversary meeting of Maharagama Bala Mandalaya held at Manel Hotel recently.

Further speaking Gunawardana added. "Sri Lanka is the only country that Sinhala people can exist. Any government that do not adhere to this policy will not exist long. We cannot allow any power to bisect the motherland into two and hand over one half to Tiger terrorists. It is crystal clear that there was an agreement between Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prabhakaran during the parliamentary election 2001.

The economy, education, culture, social safetyness and everything has deteriorated during the last two years of UNF governance. The cost of living is unbearable. UNF government had cheated the government servants and pensioners by the bogus budget. Due to this unbearable situation the working class has gone for hunger strike. Railway, Health Sector, Private Sector, Companies, Sathosa all are paralysed.

The Prime Minister and the other ministers are fast asleep. By aiding and abetting Tigers were allowed to strengthen their military capacity, government neglected the forces' requirements.

Within few days all leftist parties except UNP and LTTE will join in hands with the new alliance which forms a healthy government under the leadership of the President Mrs. Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumratunga.

The UNF government is like wreckedship which is half sunk. The ministers Thondaman and Rauf Hakeem are in a dilemma whether they contest with the UNF in the next election. They are also on the fence."

The ex-MPs Somaweera Chandrasiri, Geethanjana Gunawardana, the members of Maharagama UC, Thushara Dissanayaka, Karunaratne Sigera, lecturer Gunasena Lokuvithana also spoke.

The welcome speech was made by the Secretary of Maharagama MEP Balamandaya, Premachandra Hettiarachchi.
