Programme to cultivate humanitarian ideas

To cultivate humanitarian ideas in the people and to generate peace thoughts among the masses a programme will be launched by the Government and the German Peace Institute in the Sri Pada premises. This is a propaganda campaign by means of banners and posters. The ideas on peace and harmony will be printed on banners and posters and will be exhibited along all the three roads, Hatton-Nallathanni, Ratnapura-Siripagama and Kuruvita-Erathna leading to Sri Pada.

According to police statistics nearly 2,500,000 devotees pay homage to Sri Pada in a Sri Pada season.

A discussion was conducted recently under the patronage of the Minister of Small Holdings Development Susantha Punchinilame at his office in this regard. The Senior Advisor of the German Peace Institute Mrs. Stephani Shellpokken, Dr. Sumanasiri Liyanage and the Advisor to the press complaints commission S. Damulla also participated at the discussion.

Posters and banners containing peace slogans, mottos and statements on them are to be exhibited at the main points of the roads in all the three languages. These slogans generate peace thoughts in devotees. To conduct awareness programmes by means of seminars, discussions, lectures and workshops on peace and harmony of the world for the students and they will be absorbed into the programme.

As the Sri Pada season has begun it has been decided to start the project this month.
