An Immigration Authorised Officer's Union Secretary, who is alleged to have falsely stamped an 'arrival' endorsement on a passport of a Sri Lankan without the passport holder having arrived in the country on the particular date, was taken into custody by the Officers of the CID attached to the BIA and produced before the Negombo Magistrate who remanded him, pending the completion of the ongoing investigation. A patrolman of the Airport Security was also arrested by the CID for aiding and abetting the passport holder to obtain a forged arrival. The CID officials had informed the Immigration and Emigration Controller Mervyn Wijesekera about the arrest of the Immigration Officer. The CID, DIG had deployed a special team to ascertain whether there had been any similar offences committed by the suspects now in remand custody. |
