President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday said that she will urge the Government to urgently to give more teeth to the existing laws to combat the big time drug dealers and bootleggers. She said this at an awards ceremony at the President's House organised to felicitate 25 officers who nabbed a large scale drug dealer M.S.M.Siyam with 23.13 kgs heroin at Ward Place, Colombo 7, recently. President's awards were presented to these officers. Three officers who planned the raid including Police Narcotics Bureau SSP Pujith Jayasundara, were given special President's awards. Other officers were given Rs.4.7 million in awards from the Police Award Fund. This is the first time Narcotics Bureau Police officers were felicitied for good performance. |
