Quality of thoughts determines quality of work - Dr. Kuhathasan

"The quality of your thoughts determines the quality of your work. Productive and constructive thoughts will bring productive results. If you want to be excellent and outstanding in your performance, such excellence must be first reflected in your thoughts.

If the inputs to the mind are positive, productive and dynamic so will be the output" said the CEO of Centre for Leadership Excellence and Personality Development Dr. K. Kuhathasan.

He was addressing a seminar on "Building Positive work attitudes and productive work culture".

The seminar organised by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ruhuna was held recently at the faculty auditorium. Prof. P.L. Ariyananda, moderated the program.

Stressing the importance of developing vision, mission and values, Dr. Kuhathasan said that "those who do not have a central purpose in life and work will fall prey to negative thinking. Such negative thinking will demoralise the whole mental and physical system. Self doubt and self-rejection will weaken will-power and self confidence. Negative thinkers will become weaker in their performance. People who live with the fear of failure are people who actually fail in everything", he said.

Presenting case studies of some of the most successful professionals, Dr. Kuhathasan said that "Practical dreamers and positive thinkers never quit. They persist and try hard until they are successful. He who cherishes a vision and lofty goals will one day achieve it. All of us have hidden resources, untapped powers and vast reserves of talents. The tragedy is that we do not make a genuine attempt to tap them", he said.

Stressing that "Positive thinkers are peak performers" he said that optimists will always look at the brighter side of each activity and thus they will be able to get the best out of the worst and may be able to turn and steer a defeat into victory. For optimists, a setback may act as a spur and as a challenge to bring out the best in them. Optimism, positive approach and a deep faith in a cause are the forces that unify the conflicting force around us and spur us to put the necessary effort towards our goals", he said.
