Hayleys Consumer, Fujifilm reach new Frontier in digital imaging

Global photo imaging giant Fujifilm of Japan has introduced two of its newest models of digital mini labs to Sri Lanka, further reinforcing its dominance of the digital photo processing market in this country.

The brand's sole agent in Sri Lanka Hayleys Consumer Products Ltd., (HCPL) said introduction of the new models, the Fujifilm Frontier 355 and the Frontier 375 with enhanced features has sparked fresh interest in the market, enabling Fujifilm to maintain its overwhelming presence in this sector.

"Four out of five digital mini labs in this country are Fujifilm Frontier machines, giving Fujifilm a predominant 80 per cent share of the market," HCPL Managing Director Rizvi Zaheed said. "There are now 41 Fujifilm digital mini labs in the country as against a total of 11 from other brands."

The first installation of one of the new models of Frontier mini labs was at Nalini Studio and Digital Colour Labs at Kaduruwela in Polonnaruwa in late January.

Four more Frontier mini labs have arrived in Sri Lanka on order since then, Zaheed said.. The new digital mini labs from Fujifilm are equipped with cutting-edge hardware such as the SP 3000 Area CCD scanner and solid-state laser exposure system.

Important new features include automatic scratch and dust elimination from the processed film, automatic film carriers that can accommodate all types of film - Advanced Photo System (APS), slide or standard negative - automatic red-eye compensation software and an easy-to-use icon-based user interface and intuitive help system.

For the operators of the Frontier 355 and 375 mini labs, an important benefit is the replacement of the printing lamp with a special LED that lasts longer and reduces power consumption by nearly 60 per cent.

All installations of the digital mini labs are done entirely by HCPL's team of Fujifilm trained local technicians and the high calibre technical support provided by Hayleys Consumer has been a huge factor in the market leadership achieved by Frontier in Sri Lanka, the head of HCPL's Photo Imaging Division Jude Silva said.

Worldwide, Fujifilm has installed more than 17,000 digital mini labs, accounting for a global market share of over 70 per cent in this sector.
