Lankan Food Festival in Beijing Aitken Spence Hotels in collaboration with Singapore Airlines will hold a Sri Lankan Food Festival from February 20 to 27 in Beijing for the first time. The main objective of this festival is to create an awareness among the Chinese people and tap the potential Chinese market in Sri Lanka, Amal Nanayakkara of the Aitken Spence Hotel said. He said that 7,200 Chinese visited Sri Lanka last year and hoped it will be double after the food festival. China granted Sri Lanka the state of food destination in 2002 as a result of the excellent reputation that Sri Lanka maintained with China, Director Marketing of Aitken Spence Nalin Jayasuriya said. The two expert chefs who will be going to Beijing will prepare all types of Sri Lankan traditional and other food items for the festival which includes hoppers, string hoppers, rice and curry, rotti and sweets for lunch and dinner during this week. Kulasiri Budawatta of the Budawatta Dance Academy said his group will perform traditional but modnerised up country and low country dance items to suit the young generation. Sri Lanka can attract many tourists through these dance items, he said. |
