Impressions make impact on labels and tag export market

Impressions (Pte) Ltd, a Sri Lankan company manufacturing high quality labels and hang-tags has moved forward through its expansion with the opening of a new office complex with modern facilities.

"We are proud to be the only local company who could provide a total package in garment accessories with exports of 75 percent of our products to top UK and US markets such as Tesco, Next, Asda, Marks & Spencer, Wallmart and Gap to their complete satisfaction. Our strength in doing this is our team. We have a very effective team of 130 employees", said Managing Director Ravinda Edirisinghe.

The company is planning to invest another Rs. 150 million on expansion within the next two years.

Impressions (Pte) Ltd, a multi million BOI project in the Homagama Industrial Zone was started in 1995 to manufacture Garment accessories such as woven label, fabric label and offset bar codes. Labels and tags are used as a critical tool today to transfer images and ideas to final users as they emphasise the identity of a product. The company makes these services available through state-of-the-art printing and weaving techniques.

Impressions is committed to identify new trends in the image transferring industry, to achieve present and latest expectations of the customer in the most economical ways through, continuous improvement adopting the latest technology available and investing on human resources, its General Manager Raj Prasanna said.

The factory is equipped with the latest CAD/CAM systems. Muller Looms, Ultrasonic slitting equipment, Muscad designing systems (Swiss), Focus Printing Presses (UK) Host kind cutting machines (German) are used in design, production and finishing labels. The production facility is operated round the clock. The work flow of the company is monitored and controlled by an online ERP computer solution.

The company conducts inhouse specialised training and generalised training by the Human Resource Management department. Our labour turnover is very low as we have given opportunities to many of our employees to come up in the organisation ladder up to managerial level, the General Manager Raj Prasanna said. Most of the senior technical staff was trained abroad and the company as a policy sponsors their education whenever it is job relevant.

The factory launched a partnership in 2002 with Avery Denison, one of the Fortune 500 companies in US marking another milestone and now acting as a direct accessory supplier. Their exports are either airlifted or sent through courier services.
