They are the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP), Desha Vimukthi Janatha Peramuna (DVJP), Sri Lanka Mahajana Party (SLMP) the National Unity Alliance (NUA) and The EPDP said it is extending its support. They will formally join the alliance at a ceremony at the BMICH, today PA General Secretary D.M Jayaratne told the "Daily News yesterday." "This is a historic moment for the people of this country and a significant milestone in the country's political journey, he added. Apart from this all Island Paddy Farmers Organisation, Upcountry Dairy Farmers Association, Tea Small Holders Association, Rubber Small Holders Association, Sri Lanka Freedom Youth Movement, Jathika Maha Sanga Sabhava have also extended their support for the newly formed alliance. He added that "discussion between the SLFP and the Communist party is in progress and we have come to a consensus over several key issues while discussions with the LSSP are proceeding smoothly and I am certain that before long these parties will also join the Alliance". He also said," at the forthcoming elections the Alliance would field their candidates in all districts including the North and Eastern Province. The alliance would launch house to house campaigning and finally we will bring the UNP down to a humiliating defeat". |
