Jayodha Cycle Rally: Sampath winner of first stage by Bernard Perera reporting from Anuradhapura Krishan Samapth of Sama Sports Club, Battaramulla was declared the winner of the first stage of the Jayodha Racing Cycle event at Anuradhapura yesterday. The judges had a tough task to perform to find the winner here as ten competitors clocked the sane time of 1.37:05 seconds for three laps which covered a distance of 60 kilometres. The race which got under way at 3.00 p.m. saw the whole set of 81 riders in a bunch completing the first lap. They clocked a time of 30 minutes for this laps. In the second lap, a bunch of riders consisting eleven broke off from the main bunch. They kept on increasing the speed right through this lap. Half way into the second lap another group of riders set off making it three bunches. The front numbers kept onto their lead finishing the second lap for which they spent 35 minutes. The third lap saw riders in front battle hard get past each other, thus resulting the shortening the time for this lap. They completed the course in 32 minutes. The unfortunate incident here was the disqualification of the second placed rider J. Sumith Kumara. The judges found him guilty of using obscene words on other riders during the race. He will not be allowed to compete in the other two stages in Colombo and Matara today and tomorrow. His disqualification paved the way for Lakmal Dissanayake to be placed 10th with a time of 1.38:17 secs. All riders who completed the course yesterday will ride today in the second stage at Parliamentary Complex circuit. Results: 1. Krishantha Sampath (1.37:5 secs, Sama SC), 2.
