Presidential Task Force on Free Media The first meeting of the Presidential Task Force on free media was held on January 20, at the Ministry of Information and Telecommunication. A press release issued by the Ministry of Mass Communication states Tilak Ranaviraja, Secretary to the Ministry, participated in the inaugural meeting and made certain clarifications on the terms of reference and administrative matters. The committee decided to study the reports previously published by various Committees such as those headed by R. K. W. Gunasekara and M. J. Perera. It is also expected to examine the code of conduct and media ethics implemented in countries like Australia, Canada and India. The committee after a thorough study on these reports and the representations based on its terms of reference will publish an interim report with necessary recommendations within the next three months. This interim report will be made available to media organisations and other interested parties for their comments before arriving at a final decision for implementation. |
