Malaysia - lanka shipping ties to strengthen

The cooperation and mutual relationship pertaining to Ports and Shipping between Sri Lanka and Malaysia will be strengthened and fruitful in the near future, said Malaysian Transport Minister, Dato Chan Kong Choy.

The Malaysian Minister who paid an official visit to Sri Lanka said so when he met the Minister of Port Development and Shipping, Rauff Hakeem at the Ministry of Port Development and Shipping on Monday.

A delegation consisting of ten members representing various segments in state and private sector along with the Malaysian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, Iskander Sarudin, Secretary, Ministry of Port Development and Shipping, Ranjith Maligaspe, Chairman, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Dr. Parkarama Dissanayaka were present at this discussion.

Minister Rauff Hakeem explaining the present political situation said that the President and Prime Minister should be more flexible when solving national problems and the on-going crisis.

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority was able to increase its operational capacity by 20% during the past two years, the Ports Authority had proved by its activities practically that the authority bears all the strength against the challenges posed by the state and private sector as far as the port and shipping industry is concerned.

The Malaysian Minister and the group paid an inspection tour around the Port of Colombo. Malaysian Transport Minister Dato Chan Kong Choy had a discussion with Minister of Port Development and Shipping Rauff Hakeem at the Ministry of Port Development and Shipping on Monday.

Malaysian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Iskander Sarudin, Secretary, Ministry of Port Development and Shipping Ranjith Maligaspe and Chairman, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Dr. Parakrama Dissanayaka were present.
