Indian tanker here for Dockyard repairs

The longest tanker to be accommodated at the Colombo Dockyard Mt. Maharshi Karve is undergoing extensive steel renewal repairs in the No. 4 drydock with a maximum capacity of 125,000 DWT. This is her second call for drydock repairs to CDL.

This 25-year-old tanker owned by the Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. called Colombo for major lay up and drydocking repairs. The main repair scope includes extensive steel renewal exceeding over 440 tons to be carried out while in drydock and alongside repair berth, a CDL press release said.

During this repair call three units of the main engine and two units in the auxiliary engine will be overhauled. Cargo pump and turbine overhauling and other machinery are also attended. The Co2 and the Inert gas systems are also attended to during this extensive repair call. The surface preparation - blasting and painting work also had been attended to by Premator East.

CDL's management has employed all possible resources, with the objective of completing the repairs and redelivering the ship to the owners meeting the redelivery schedules.

She is planned to undock by the end of the month and continue her repairs at the alongside repair berth. The foreign exchange generated by this extensive repair will be in the region of approximately US$ 1.5 to 2 million.

CDL's main stay of operations is ship repairs - operating the four drydocks, while ship building heavy engineering has also contributed in placing CDL as one of the major marine engineering institution in the region. CDL operates jointly in collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Co. Ltd. Japan.
