Commercial Bank wins Suntel Bowling trophy 2003 Commercial Bank with 1924 points were winners at the Suntel Trophy 2003, which was held at the Strikes Bowling Centre (formally Y2K) and HSBC became runners-up with 1847 points. Six other companies were also battling for the coveted Suntel Trophy - the country's premier mercantile bowling tournament. The other contestants were Paradigm Clothing, Bodyline Ltd., JWT, Lanka Orient Line Express, Stafford Motors and Air Global Ltd. From the first round, it was a close game between the two banking rivals Commercial Bank and HSBC. Commercial Bank scored 980 points in the first round and its captain Roshan Silva scored an impressive 224 points, the tournament's highest first round individual score. HSBC scored 940, where all the players evenly contributed. During the final round, Commercial Bank again led the scorecard with 944 points where HSBC managed only 907 points. Last year's winners Paradigm Clothing made an impressive comeback in the second round with 924 points which made them 2nd runners-up. Suharasha Perera of Lanka orient Line Express walked away with the prize for the top overall scorer with 374 points. Held for the third consecutive year, Suntel Trophy is organized by Suntel Ltd., Sri Lanka's leading telecom service provider. Each year, Suntel invites companies representing various sectors to participate in the tournament, such as apparel, banking, finance, transport, manufacturing, advertising etc. Preliminary matches are played within sectors throughout the year. Winners and runners-up from each preliminary will be selected to participate in the finals. |
