Hasan Ali, the party General Secretary told the Daily News yesterday that as a minority party the low priority given to the ethnic conflict and the peace process was a matter of utmost concern to the Muslims. "Any political party can enter into an agreement with another political party, and the SLMC too as a political party has no right to criticise such a pact. But we are very concerned about the new Alliance's stand and the prominence or lack of it given to the peace process." Referring to an interview given by the JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva, Ali said that the two parties have sorted out 99 percent of their differences and the remaining one percent is about the peace process. "But what we feel is that 99 percent of priority should be given to the peace and the resolution of the ethnic conflict." Meanwhile speaking about the future Provincial Council elections he said as of now the SLMC has decided to contest for the provincial council election on its own. However, this will be discussed in detail at the politburo and the party high command meeting on Friday. "The issue of elections is not on the agenda. However if the issue comes up it might be discussed in detail." |
