News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | UNP Chairmen involved in double murders - JVP The Politburo of the People's Liberation Front (JVP) in a press communique yesterday urged the President and the authorities concerned to enforce the law against criminals who perpetrate brutalities on people celebrating the historic event of establishing the SLFP - JVP political alliance. In a number of areas including Puttalam, Nikaweratiya, Matugama,Embilipitiya, Anamaduwa, Teldeniya, Balapitiya, Horawpathana, Mawathagama, Devinuwara and Weligama, UNP thugs have carried out mayhem against people who were making arrangements to celebrate the historic occasion of the signing of the MoU between the SLFP and the JVP. According to reports, available, two people were killed and 21 hospitalised by now. UNP Pradeshiya Sabha Chairmen, Gamini Wadigamangawa of Anamaduwa, Palitha Thavarapperuma of Matugama and Asoka Wickremasinghe of Kataragama are directly involved in these attacks, stated the media announcement. The JVP Media release while conveying the party condolences to the members of the bereaved families of Nimal Gunasiri and Lal Pinto who were murdered under such circumstances, urged the authorities concerned to strictly enforce the law to deal with thugs who are hostile to the people's victory Meanwhile,SLFP General Secretary Maithreepala Sirisena said that his party will take firm action against those found to be responsible for these despicable murders. Two Police teams are on the trail of suspects in the Puttalam double murder case, in which two JVP activists died in a bomb attack, Police said yesterday. |
