by Anjana Gamage A grand ceremony has been organised by the National Film Corporation (NFC) to celebrate 57 years of Sinhala Cinema today and tomorrow (22). An exhibition of Sinhala cinema will be opened today at 9.00 a.m by the Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku along with other distinguished patrons. Thereafter a cinema seminar will be held at the John de Silva Memorial Theatre at 10.00 am. Kalasoori Sathischandra Edirisingha will be the chief guest at this cinema seminar. Talks will be delivered by Dr. Samantha Herath of Colombo University, Dr. Ariyaratne Athugala of Kelaniya University and Dr. Praneeth Abeysundara of Sri Jayawardenepura University. Renowned artist Lucien Bulathsinghala will conduct the programme. A special ceremony to commemorate artistes who helped uplift the local cinema will also be held at the John de Silva Memorial theatre at 4.00pm. Film artists of yesteryear Sirisena Wimalaweera, S.M. Nayagam, Mohamed Gouse Master, Peter Siriwardena, Srimathi Karunadevi, D.R. Nanayakkara, Edie Junior, Perl Wasudevi, Bertram Fernando, Theresa Weerasinghe, P.L.J. Nandana Keerthi, Herby Seneviratne, Rohini Jayakody, Ravindra Rupasena, Emalin Dimbulana will be honoured at this ceremony. The ceremony will be followed by a musical show featuring famous songs from films starring these artistes. The music will be provided by Visharadha Manoj Pereis and the program will be conducted by T.M. Sangadasa. |
