Night club brawl : CID seeks A.G's advice to file plaint against Ministers' sons

The CID is to seek the advice of the Attorney-General prior to filing charges against the sons of Ministers S.B. Dissanayake and Mahinda Wijesekera who were involved in a night club brawl, in Colombo, following the disclosure last evening of the cost of damage to a Tertiary Education Ministry vehicle during the brawl.

The CID was informed last evening that the cost of the damage to the vehicle amounts to Rs. 53,800 and was being used by the Co-ordinating Secretary to Tertiary Education Minister Kabir Hashim who is also the brother-in-law of the Minister.

The CID is to seek the advice of the Attorney-General to file plaint against the sons of the two Ministers for causing damage to public property, sources added.

Two brothers-in-law of Minister Kabir Hashim were injured in an alleged assault by sons of Ministers S.B. Dissanayake and Mahinda Wijesekera during an incident at a night club in Colombo recently.

Several vehicles including a vehicle of Tertiary Education Ministry was damaged in the attack.

CID services said two victims had later withdrawn their complaints against the sons of Minister S.B. Dissanayake and Mahinda Wijesekera and released after settlement at the Colombo Fort Magistrate court.

CID sources said that although these alleged victims of the assault had withdrawn the complaint against the suspects, the Co-Ordinating secretary of the Minister of Tertiary Education who had gone abroad after the incident has not withdrawn his complaint. The CID yesterday managed to obtain the cost of the damage to the vehicle after CID officers were earlier put off for several days when they called at the Ministry of Tertiary Education to obtain this information.

The CID also revealed the vehicles used by the suspects during the incident were also Government vehicles.
