Sinhala-Tamil cultural show

by Ravindra Seneviratne in Oslo

"A game is played and a fine form of competition and entertainment in which old and young can come together as equals and feel that they have something in common. A game can also be used as a way of building bridges between people with different professions and interest, and different cultural, religious and political backgrounds. Creating a game requires both imagination and concentration and increases people's inter-disciplinary overview qualities, which are important to develop, not least in children."

- Thor Heyerdhal

Rhythms of Sinhala Tamil tune from variety of events and drum beats echoed at the Oslo National Music School Hall in Majorstuen where the talents of all ages of the two living Sri Lankan communities were shown reflecting their binding collective consciousness in this peaceful city of North Pole.

Norway the country and home for different cultural, religious and ethnic people who live in peace and harmony is one of the Nordic countries dreaming a strong multi-ethnic and multi cultural society in future, also a proved haven for Sri Lankan ethnic mosaic.

Sri Lanka Association of Norway (SLAN) with the Consulate General of SL and the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented an evening concert recently performing traditions of the two communities for the aim of further strengthening the unity.

It was indeed a great pleasure for me to be in this event of such a magnitude and enjoyed an untiring effort of the dedicated members of SLAN whose enthusiasm to show the tradition of cultural heritage in the form of dance and music for the sake of peace.

The SLAN celebrating its 20th anniversary founded it as a cultural platform for bridge building between two communities contributed towards many events and Sri Lanka Independence Day celebrations in Oslo.

Considering 20 years of the past, this pageant was a moment to cherish for all who came through a challenging journey with the newly dawned peace. Sharing a common heritage on the same stage it culminated securing the joy of peace by singing a song for peace with all participants for a unified Sri Lanka.
