Sri Lanka Navy - national wrestling champions

The National Wrestling Championship meet organised by the Interim Committee of Sri Lanka Wrestling Federation was held at the National Youth Centre Indoor Stadium, Maharagama recently.

The meet was held in kg 48, 50, 55, 66, 74, 84, 96 and 120 weight categories. Sri Lanka Navy which bagged seven out of nine titles, won the overall championship in the all island wrestling meet 2004.

The 1st runner-up was Sri Lanka Air Force and in third place was Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa.

Navy, Air Force, Army, Colombo Municipality, Prisons, Bandaranaike Vidyalaya Gampaha, Wallala Central College, Marapola Gampaha, Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa, Young Shadows Ja-Ela, Armstrong Sports Club and Young Maria Kalutara participated at the event. The best wrestler selected at the meet was H. A. Madura Malan of the Navy and the best loser was E. M. L. Samitha Priyankara of the Armstrong Sports Club.

The prize-giving and medals presentation ceremony was held on January 10 at the National Youth Centre, Maharagama under the patronage of the Acting Pakistan High Commissioner T. A. N. Veer Khaskhtli.
