Jayodha Cycle Rally Jan 23, 24 and 25

Jayodha Cycle Rally organised by Development Lotteries Board and conducted by Cycling Federation will be held on January 23, 24 and 25 at Anuradhapura, Colombo and Matara respectively.

The Rupavahini Corporation and Associated Newspapers of Ceylon are the media sponsors for the three day long event. The open racing cycling event will cover a distance not exceeding 100 kilometres and be run on a circuit, while the Mountain Bike riders in two different age group under-19 and under-16 boys/girls will also be on these days.

Mountain Bikers from North/East, North Central Province and North Western Province are eligible to participate at the Anuradhapura events on January 23.The racing cyclists will be brought to Colombo on the same evening for the second day's event to be held at Parliament grounds. Competitors from Western Province, Central Province and Sabaragamuwa will compete in the Mountain Biking events in Colombo.

The racing cyclists will then be taken to Matara for the final stage of the event on the same evening. Here too the distance will be the same as the other two stages.

Mountain Biking competitors from Uva and Southern will compete in the four events.The winner of each event in the open event will receive Rs. 10,000 while the two runners-up will receive awards worth Rs. 7,500 and 5,000. The other seven riders who finish the course get Rs. 1,500 each. The timing will decide the overall winner at Matara on the final day January 25, will carry away a trophy and a cash award of Rs. 50,000.

The riders who finish as runners-up will be awarded with trophies and Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 30,000. Fourth and fifth placed riders are to receive Rs. 20,000 and 10,000 and the others placed up to tenth position Rs. 5,000 each. There will also be a rally from A'pura to Colombo on January 24 and on January 25 from Colombo to Matara. For this rally mobike riders from Sri Lanka Army and cyclists from all parts of the country are eligible to participate.

This will take the shape of a fancy parade where young couples dressed in different attires could take part. The organisers expect to select five winners each day. Entry forms which will appear in Dinamina/Daily News are accepted till January 21, 2004.

The organisers will provide musical entertainment in Colombo and Matara.On January 23 at Anuradhapura the spectators will get the opportunity of witnessing the 'army tattoo'.
