Has the PM withdrawn from the peace process?

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga in a television interview with the ITN said that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has not yet officially informed her that he is withdrawing from the peace process. Since the Ceasefire Agreement is not a private document, but an agreement signed with the LTTE by the Government, Prime Minister Ranil Wcikremesinghe cannot wash his hands off from his responsibilities, the President added.

She also said that she would take necessary action, when the PM informs her of his decision to withdraw from the peace process.

The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) which is authorised to monitor the Ceasefire Agreement also said a few days ago that it was also not informed about any decision by the PM to withdraw from the peace process.

The Royal Norwegian Government has also not intimated the receipt of any such communication by the Prime Minister.
