SLTA begins free coaching scheme

The SLTA launches another promotional campaign to attract beginners next week, inviting youngsters above six years to participate in its free coaching scheme on the SLTA courts, Green Path. The free coaching classes conducted by SLTA's panel of qualified coaches will be held on January 15, a public holiday, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

"A lot of schools in Colombo don't have tennis on their sports list, but we don't believe that there's a lack of interest in those schools. The free coaching scheme is aimed at providing the opportunity to those youngsters keen on trying a hand at tennis," said an SLTA official. "It doesn't matter if they don't have racquets, the SLTA will provide the equipment."

This latest venture to promote tennis among the young is an addition to its popular mini tennis program, which hasn't been as popular among Colombo schools as it has in the provinces. Six Colombo schools - D. S. Senanayake, St. Peters, Ananda, Museaus, Bishops and HFC - have joined the mini program.

The SLTA hopes to conduct its free coaching scheme on a regular basis.
