If not the future of the country would be dark and the younger generation would be greatly affected." This was stated by Reginold Cooray the Chief Minister of the Western Province after laying the foundation stone for the construction of an Assembly Hall at the Muslim Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Kalutara. He stressed further, "A carpenter would be happy after completion of his craft, a farmer by seeing the lovely paddy plants in the fields and the teacher gains happiness by achieving good results in public examinations. A politician would be happy by creating a decent society where every one can live in harmony." He emphasised that the people have experienced devastation of the country when Sinhala, Muslim and Tamil communities were divided. Had there been no ethnic war in the country the country would have been prosperous. "Once minister Thondaman had stated that if the People's Alliance and the United National Party were united on common policy he would join the LTTE. There should be no reason to oppose when these two political parties are united. Their main objective was to oppose when these two political parties intend to join . If Sinhala and the Muslim communities were united, the ethnic problem could be solved to bring prosperity." Sumith Lal Mendis, Member, Western Provincial Council, M. S. M. Mubarak, Leader of the Opposition, Urban Council, Kalutara, Mrs. Amara Nandani, Directress, Kalutara Education Zone, Ali Mowlana, Principal, Muslim Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Kalutara also spoke. |
