A special Buddhist delegation headed by Ven. Sheng Hui Thera, incumbent of Lin Sung monastery (Lord Buddha's Tooth Relic Temple) in China and Vice President of the Chinese Buddhist Association arrived in Sri Lanka recently. This delegation consisting of six members is the first delegation to visit this country with the dawn of 2004. The delegation has come to participate in several religious functions in Asgiriya Maha Vihara as Chief invitees, had a special discussion with Lal Dharmapriya Gamage, Minister Assisting Foreign Affairs at the Ministry. Buddhist traditions common to both countries were discussed at length while addressing the importance of improving the Buddhist relationship existing between the two countries. Minister Gamage emphasised the possibility of inspiring more Chinese Buddhist pilgrims to visit Sri Lanka. He pointed out that it would in turn help development of Buddhist Culture in the two countries. A gold-plated Buddha Image presented by the Ven. Sheng Hui Thera was received by the Minister Gamage on behalf of the Prime Minister. Sun Guoxiang the Chinese Ambassador in Sri Lanka and Mrs. Swarna Athukorale, Secretary, Ministry Assisting Foreign Affairs were also present on this occasion. |
