Multilac clinches top honours at Export Excellence Awards 2003

Macksons Paint Industries, manufacturers of Multilac Paints recently bagged the prestigious Gold award at the National Awards for Export Excellence 2003 thus further strengthening its supremacy in the chemical and allied products sector.

Organised by the Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy, Investment Promotion and Constitutional Affairs, these awards felicitated Sri Lankan exporters for their exceptional performance in exports.

Macksons Paint was set up in 1981 with six employees. It ranks among Sri Lanka's top paint manufacturers today, and with a workforce of over 400 persons, accounts for over 90% of Sri Lanka's paint exports. Multilac is today a household name not only in the Sri Lankan paint market but also in the South Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala and even beyond in the Maldives, Myanmar, China and Australia.

"The company's focus is concentrated on the Indian market. The market there is excellent provided one strikes the right balance in quality and affordability, which we are confident we can do. In fact we plan to set up our own factory in India in due course", Group founder chairman A. W. M. Makeen said.

Macksons Paints recently launched its Automotive Paints in collaboration with Isamu Paints of Japan, under the brand name of Mitsuko, giving the consumer the choice of selecting any OEM (Original) colour code of any motor vehicle manufactured in the world.

In addition, the colour bank network launched in collaboration with Coloris GCC of France gives customers the choice of over 10,000 colours for interior and exterior walls, furniture and toilets. The company operates 40 such colour banks in Sri Lanka, China, Maldives and India.

Makeen said that the Multilac policy was fine-tuned to customer satisfaction. "In my nearly half a century in business never have I lost focus of the consumers' point of view. As long as this tradition continues, Multilac will be a winner anywhere in the world", he said.
