Blind Pakistani baby gets gift of vision from dead Indian woman MADRAS, Tuesday (AFP) A blind 15-month-old Pakistani baby boy got the gift of vision from a deceased Indian woman whose eye was transplanted after a complicated surgery at a hospital in Madras city, doctors said Monday. "The transplant is a success and the kid is able to play with toys, pick up a pen and even watch the TV," said Amar Agarwal, the eye surgeon who performed the four-hour surgery. "He smiles happily at his parents and that is a great sight for us at the hospital," he added. Agarwal added that the operation carried out on December 23 had become complicated as the right eye's cornea had become stuck to the iris. The success of the operation was confirmed only after the bandages were taken off later and the baby boy Talha responded visually to his surroundings. "Our aim was to make him independent in life, so he could take care of himself without having to depend on others all the time for moving around," Agarwal said. The baby boy is due to leave for Pakistan on Thursday. |
