Three more die of alcohol poisoning

by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi

The death toll in Sunday's alcohol poisoning rose to eight yesterday as three more succumbed in hospital.

"One critical patient is receiving treatment", Dr. Shelton Perera, Deputy Director of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital told the Daily News.

Nearly 40 persons were admitted to Karapitiya Hospital after consuming illicit liquor from a hooch den in Boralukada, Baddegama.

Police alleged that they had consumed wine spirit or thinner. "Sixteen patients receiving treatment at the hospital were out of danger," added Dr. Perera.
