by Asela Kuruluwansa The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday filed a detailed report in the Kandy Magistrate's Court on the Rs. 100 million fraud alleged to have taken place in the Central Province Education Department. Six suspects were present in Court, and the sixth suspect, Dingiri Bandara Eldeniya, the former Additional Director of Education, is on bail on medical grounds. Kandy Chief Magistrate Leon Seneviratne further remanded the suspects produced from remand custody and fixed the case for January 14 on which day he would consider their applications for bail after studying the CID report. Former accountant Ananda Weerasinghe, former Deputy Director of Education Ananda Munasinghe, teacher instructors Nandana Somasiri Warakavulla, J. Abeyratne Bandara, Indrakumara Bibile, Ananda Ratnayake and H. M. Gunatilleke, former Director of Education N. R. C. Gunawardena and former Additional Director of Education Dingiri Bandara Eldeniya are the suspects who have been arrested. President's Counsel Wijaya Wickremaratne with Attorneys-at-Law Hirantha Herath, Senarath Jayasundera, S. Gunawardena, Upali Bogahapitiya, M. P. Jayasinghe, Saman Kariyawasam, Rukshan Lenora, Nimal Suraweera, Geethanjali Sumithraarachchi, Dhammika Ariyadasa and Aruni Dhanapala appeared for the suspects. |
