Consumers to be protected from errant drug traders

The Consumer Affairs Authority and the Sri Lanka Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industry has decided to work together to protect consumers from errant traders who sell pharmaceutical products at unfair prices. They arrived at this decision following the large number of complaints received by the Consumer Affairs Authority from consumers

In future Importers and Manufacturers of pharmaceuticals products would inform their dealers and traders of pharmaceuticals to indicate and sell the product at the maximum retail price which they specify.

The Sri Lanka Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industry has agreed to monitor this process. The CAA believes this enable consumers to purchase pharmaceutical products at a standard price islandwide, while the CAA also has taken steps to display the pricing list at all places which sell pharmaceutical products.
