CCF tickets misleading, say tourists

By Chamitha Kuruppu

Tourists who visit the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Dambulla Rock Temple and Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi with the Cultural Triangle ticket are at a loss to understand why the facility to enter the premises is not granted.

A large number of complaints are being received daily from tourists visiting these sites including Isurumuniya against the Central Cultural Fund (CCF) for selling tickets which do not include entry into the historically important places.

A number of tourists visit the Dalada Maligawa with these tickets, an official at the Dalada Maligawa said. When we try to explain the situation they (tourists) refuse to listen and demand entry, the official said adding that such a situation would make tourists misunderstand that they are ill treated. This will also have a negative impact on the tourism industry.

A Cultural Triangle Ticket or round ticket is priced at Rs 3,120. The ticket entitles entry to six historically significant sites Anuradhapura, Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Mahanuwara, Nalanda, Ritigala and Medirigiriya.

However, tourists should buy tickets to enter the Dalada Maligawa, Dambulla Rock Temple, Anuradhapura Sri Maha Bodhi and Isurumuniya which are not included in the round ticket. Entry tickets to these four historical places are sold at the sites. Therefore the Central Cultural Fund does not include these places in the round ticket, a spokesperson for the Cultural Fund said.

The fact that entry to these four places are not entitled in the ticket is clearly printed on the ticket and officials at the Cultural Fund always inform the tourist before selling the ticket, the spokesperson said.

However, tourists complain that the letters are not legible and they are mislead by the CCF ticket. While the tourism industry had a record year in 2003 with over 500,000 arrivals and holds high expectations for the coming years it is wise to overcome mistakes like these, they said.
