HNDE petition seeks new adminsitration by Manjula Fernando The Higher National Diploma in Engineering students will hand over a petition to the education authorities urging that a new administration be appointed to manage the HNDE course. The HNDE Students' Association collected signatures from university academics, undergraduates, scholars, religious leaders, politicians, trade union members, artists, school children and the general public for the petition on Monday. The Association alleges that the current administration, the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technical Education (SLIATE) has put them in a deep crisis and that the course is threatened with losing its rank without proper facilities in their current location. The HNDE course was formerly affiliated with the Moratuwa University. The course is still in high demand from Advanced level mathematics students and is well placed in the industry. However, students express the view that they are under threat of losing this recognition which secures for them immediate employment, due to the unfortunate crisis hanging over the management. |
