Safeguard country from religious fanatics - Ven. Galagama Dhammaransi Thera

Ven. Galagama Dhammaransi Thera, Secretary Amarapura Siri Saddharama Yukthika Maha Nikaya in a statement yesterday called upon all patriotic people including the clergy to unite and come forward to safeguard the country from religious fanatics trying to fish in troubled waters even before the flames of the long drawn out ethnic war which destroyed the country's valuable assets including thousands of lives have been fully doused.

The statement said it is evident that a group of conspirators bent on thwarting the country's forward march were behind the present campaign to foment religious tension and clashes in this country where people belonging to various religious groups had coexisted peacefully.

The statement which vehemently condemns attacks on places of worship and members of the clergy has called upon the people to think and act in a free, independent and peaceful manner.

Buddhism has taught people to show love and compassion even to the worst enemies and that a person who did not follow this teaching was not a true Buddhist, the statement said.
