HRM programs becoming popular

by Ramani Kangaraarachchi

Student participation in the Diploma in HRM programs conducted by the Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka (IPM) has shown a significant increase.

A study carried out by the Institute has found that the number of students for the Diploma program in 2000 was only 121 and it increased up to 240 by 2003. The Institute has conducted only two Diploma programs in 2000 and in 2003 it has increased upto five courses.

This indicates that people are beginning to realise the importance of developing people in the field of Human Resource Management in their organisations.

IPM as the premier organisation in this field is prepared to assist any organisation in training more people towards achieving their objectives, its President Janaka Kumarasinghe said.

IPM has extended its facilities to Kandy and Matara this year by starting with certificate courses and it will be expanded further next year.

The Institute recently launched an exchange program among member countries to give their members an opportunity to study best human resource management practices in other countries and to receive an international exposure for our human resource professionals.

The international recognition that IPM Sri Lanka received by electing as the President of the Asia-Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management APFHRM and as a member of the World Federation of Personnel Management Associations WFPMA and the facilities provided to the students at the HR House at a convenient location in Narahenpita also has resulted this positive response, Kumarasinghe said.

IPM conducts public lectures free every month apart from certificate coruses, foundation coruses in Human Resoruce Management and Trainign and Development.
