Semini Motors : A leader in motor spares The policy of selling original spareparts, ability to retain longstanding customers and, employment of educated young people had been the success of Semini Motors, its Managing Director Gunadasa Kevitiyagala said. Kevitiyagala identified the importance of having a reliable motor spareparts dealer while running a private bus of his own in 1980s. Difficulty in finding genuine and right spareparts for his vehicle had motivated him to start a spareparts shop. The shop he started in Wattala was confined to distribute only original spareparts islandwide for English vehicles with the help of a friend who imports spareparts. He was able to develop confidence among his customers during a short period of time due to genuineness of goods and efficient services of his staff. In 1985, he started importing spareparts on his own and today he is a leading import dealer of spareparts from Japan and the sole agent of VIC filters. He imports 24 containers of spareparts per year. In 1992 he opened a new shop at Panchikawatta apart from developing Wattala stores. He has deployed 13 lorries for distribution and owns a fleet of 25 vehicles. His staff has increased to 75 while two of his daughters assist him as directors. The staff is well looked after by the company. His success in business has got him involved in many social activities of national importance. He donated over Rs. 3 million to the National Defence Fund at a time the country was in crisis apart from many other social activities. Kevitiyagala will received the Deshamanya Lanka Puthra title for his valuable services to the country yesterday at the BMICH in Colombo. RK |
