BEIJING, Thursday (AFP) China raised the death toll from a blow-out at a natural gas field in southwest China's Chongqing municipality to 163, state media said.

The death toll, carried by the Xinhua news agency, was up from 133 announced shortly before and marked a dramatic increase from the eight dead reported earlier in the day. The accident happened Tuesday night at the Chuandongbei gas field in Chongqing's Kaixian county.
