Remains of Ven. Soma Thera arrive today by Chamikara Weerasinghe The remains of Ven. Gangodawila Soma Thera will arrive at the Bandaranaike International Airport today between 7 am and 9.30 am and will be taken immediately to the Colombo North General Hospital, Ragama for a full-scale post-mortem. The remains will then be taken to the Bambalapitiya Vajirarama where it will be kept for public respect until 3 pm tomorrow (19), after which the remains will be taken to the Sri Vajiragnana Dharmayatana at Maharagama where it will lie in state until the cremation. The head of the committee, Ven. Ananda Panditha Anunayake thera yesterday briefing the media said it will be an all-important post-mortem. He said that the Ven. Soma thera's body was lying in Moscow after being flown from the St. Petersburg hospital, and was due to be sent on Russian flight 531 at 8.30 pm yesterday (17) to Sri Lanka. Viharadhipathi of the Washington Buddhist Vihara and Maharagama Dharmayatanadhipathi Dhammasiri thera said here that it would be the duty of the nation who respect Ven. Soma thera not to get involved in any form of violence over certain rumours. He requested the public not to get involved in any form of violence, saying that it would be the highest respect that could be paid to Ven. Gangodawila Soma Thera. |
