NCCSL to establish Sri Lanka Institute for International Relations

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka is planning a new initiative to establish the Institute for International Relations to promote Sri Lanka's relationships with other countries. The Committee appointed to play an Advisory Role to the NCCSL. Institute for International Relations is headed by former senior diplomat Dr. Vernon Mendis.

The Advisory Committee of eleven members includes distinguished professionals and intellectuals of the country in the field of International Relations.

The objective of this unit is to encourage and facilitate the study of international issues, with particular reference to economic and commercial activities, promote research in international economic and commercial affairs, either by itself or in collaboration with an other body or persons, to link up and network with any chambers companies, institutes, societies or associations, both locally and internationally, having objects similar to those institute.

Activities of this unit will focus on analysing and disseminating information of national concern, in areas such as opportunities for foreign direct investment, research into effective utilisation of global resources, study and make recommendations to the decision-markers regarding economic and trade agreements with foreign countries, advice on matters, related to issues arising in international and regional economic and commercial forums.

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka Institute for International Relations will be launched on December 19, 2003 at 5.15 p.m. at the Committee Room C. BMICH.
