Olex wins major underground power cable contract Leading Australian cable manufacturer, Olex, has been awarded an international contract to supply and install the first 132kv XLPE electricity cable in Sri Lanka.
The contract was signed on December 15 in Colombo by the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and the General Manager and Project Manager for Olex. CEB, Chairman, M. Zubair, said Olex had been awarded the two-year turnkey project (worth more than AUS $25 million) from a field of international tenderers to supply and install more than 90 kilometres of 132kv XLPE cable on a 28km route between four new electricity substations in Colombo. Finance for the project is provided under a German KfW loan. Olex will work closely with German company, ABB, who was selected by the Ceylon Electricity Board as the successful bidder for the construction of the four new electricity substations. Olex has worked with ABB on many other projects throughout the region. Olex Managing Director, Andrew Stobart, said Olex was awarded the contract on the strength of its reputation for cable supply/installation in Asia and its record for sharing technical experience with local partners. "Olex has a long and successful association with Sri Lanka and looks to this new project to further strengthen the business relationship we've developed in the region", Stobart said. This latest contract follows an earlier cable supply project for 33kV electricity cable to the CEB, which was also secured for Olex by their agents, Lanka Power. |
