by Nadira Gunatilleke Around one million Sri Lankans (eight per cent of the population) are disabled in one form or the other according to Social Welfare Ministry statistics. A majority are from rural areas. The ministry released the statistics coinciding with International Disabled Day which falls today. Social Welfare Minister Ravindra Samaraweera and Post and Telecommunication Minister Imthiaz Bakeer Markar will be present at the International Disabled Day ceremony at the Kalutara District Secretariat today at 9 am. |
