Samurdhi beneficiaries provided facilities for self-employment

The Samurdhi beneficiaries in the Warakapola PS area are being provided with facilities to start self-employment projects of their own. Presently, with this in view, arrangements are in the offing to provide Samurdhi recipient families, equipment to the value of rupees five hundred thousand, as indicated to our correspondent by the Samurdhi Project Assistant in the area G. M. Sumanasiri.

He disclosed that it was encouraging to be convinced that a major segment of the Samurdhi recipients are anxious and very keen, to start small self-employment projects, provided, facilities are made available to them.

Already in Warakapola area a minimum of twenty five families have created sales points in their homesteads dealing with various items produced by Samurdhi beneficiaries.

In order to encourage and make these Samurdhi beneficiaries more enthusiastic by providing equipment needed by them, the Samurdhi Development Authority has allocated a sum of rupees two hundred and fifty thousand to procure more equipment for their use, and arrangements have been made to provide them necessary facilities such as sewing machines, grinders, saloon equipment etc. The equipment is provided under the Small Industries Development Program initiated by the Samurdhi Development Authority.

For the present, steps have been taken to distribute the equipment among sixty Samurdhi beneficiaries in the area and the Samurdhi Authority has allocated a sum of rupees three hundred thousand in this regard.

The Samurdhi beneficiaries are provided with easy term loans, interest free, to be settled in twelve instalments.

The speciality in this loan scheme is, the Samurdhi beneficiaries are required to pay only a half of the interest free loans provided to them, according to information disclosed by Samurdhi Development Authority sources in Warakapola PS area.
