Forum on higher education in France

The French Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs joined hands five years ago to create the EduFrance Agency for the purpose of promoting the French Higher Education System.

Following their guidelines, the Alliance Francaise de Colombo has opened an EduFrance Bureau to assist students seeking information regarding possibilities of entering a university in France in the field of their choice at undergraduate or post graduate level, states EduFrance press release.

The French Higher Education System is noted for its large variety of universities, schools and colleges, or which the organisation and entry requirements vary according to the type of establishment and the kind of course one wants to study. The State Higher Education System is based on three principles, excellence, equality and fraternity.

The state finances the cost of teaching and the students have only to pay an annual registration fee. All students, foreigners as well as French citizens can benefit from this system provided they possess the required level of proficiency in the French language to follow the university curricula as all the courses in the government subsidised public educational institutions are conducted in the French medium.

However there are courses conducted in English in the private sector institutions. The Alliance and the Embassy of France are organising the forum on Higher Education in France for the fifth consecutive year on December 7 and 8 at Alliance Francaise de Colombo.

Kumar Thambyah, Principal Consultant at Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management will declare open this forum on December 7 at 10.00 a.m. Young Sri Lankan students hoping to study abroad will have the opportunity to meet representatives of French universities.
