ABS accredited by CIMA UK as first 'Quality Partner' in Lanka The Academy of Business Studies (ABS) has been conferred the 'CIMA Quality Partner' accreditation by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) UK. It is only given to selected educational institutes after stringent tests and assessments and ABS is the first Institute in Sri Lanka to be honoured with this accreditation. The CIMA Quality Partner Accreditation was presented to Faris Ismail the CEO of ABS by Kathy Grimshaw, Director- International CIMA UK at the Colombo Hilton on November 18 under the patronage of Dr. Karunasena Koddituwakku, Minister of Human Resource Development, Education and Cultural Affairs. Also present were Pravir Samarasinghe, President CIMA Sri Lanka Division, Claude Fernando, Deputy President, CIMA, Sri Lanka Division and Janet Gardner, Head of Quality Assurance, CIMA - UK. The 'Quality Partner accreditation conferred by CIMA, UK through their 'Learning Through Partnership' program is in recognition of the quality standards maintained by ABS. By this designation, ABS has brought recognition not only to the Institute but to Sri Lanka as well. 'Learning Through Partnership' (LTP) is the quality assurance scheme prepared by CIMA for colleges teaching their courses with the objective of improving the standards of CIMA courses. It takes into consideration issues such as teaching, learning, support course, monitoring and review, coverage of the syllabus, staff expertise and resources as well as involvement of the students in course development. Such high standards are not uncommon at ABS. ABS has had a string of 'firsts' to its name. It was the first Institute in Sri Lanka to be accredited as a Centre for Computer Based Assessment of CIMA in June 2002 and the first Institute to be Accredited as a Tuition Centre in Sri Lanka for the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. |
