TRC case against Mobitel - clarification The Director General of the Telecom Regulatory Commission Themiya Hurulle has sent the following clarification on the story captioned 'TRC case against Mobitel dismissed' which was published yesterday. "Reference the above article, I wish to inform you that although the Attorney General's Department withdrew the plaint from the Colombo Magistrate's Court, the same was Re-filed by the Attorney General's Department on the same day in the Fort Magistrate's Court. The Application was supported by the Senior State Counsel and the learned Fort Magistrate issued summons on all the Accused named in the plaint, returnable on December 10, 2003." "Referring to your third paragraph in the aforesaid article, your statement is totally incorrect where you say that the "withdrawal by the Attorney General is proven affirmation of Mobitel's right to offer customers unrestrained access ......etc". The TRCSL carries out its duties as per the Sri Lanka Telecommunications Act No. 25 of 1991 as amended to ensure a level 'playing field' for All Telecommunications Operators as well as ensuring the rights of the subscribers and the general public as mandated by Parliament," the release said. |
