P. Rajaratnam in Nuwara Eliya

Bangladesh had made many strides in the sphere of sports and particularly in Cricket and Golf. With the 28 year old Golf club, my country had made remarkable achievements in the recent past, says Anowar Rashid, the Manager of the Bangladesh Golf Team currently participating in the 112th Amateur Golf Championships in Nuwara Eliya.

Rashid a man of many facets, a sportsman, business magnate hotelier of international repute in his country and a keen promoter of sports. He says his main Golf club the Kurnitola Golf club with two more clubs known as Shubu Golf club and Chitagong Golf Club with a membership of 1500 and the clubs are being mainly helped and assisted by the Army.

The President of the club is the Head of the Army, Lt. General Hassan Masooth by tradition and according to the clubs Constitution. The Bangladesh golfers have participated in all the SAARC country tournaments, and are looking forward to send more young golfers to other countries and gain experience. The two young golfers M. Siddique Rahman (22) and M.D. Hasen Mea (22) found it extremely difficult to play in Nuwara Eliya's celebrated links for the first time, specially with such experienced and formidable participants of Sri Lanka, more particular in the adverse weather conditions.

He said Sri Lanka was a very friendly country with Bangladesh and with its friendly ties, I look forward to get the encouragements and assistance in golfing. He added that his government was giving all the assistance in the field of sports.
