LTTE to study South African model CAPE TOWN, Monday (AFP) Sri Lankan rebels were Monday due to meet members from South Africa's ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), to try to find a solution to end three decades of war. The visiting team from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) will be led by peace secretariat secretary general S. Puleedevan, the SAPA news agency reported. "The aim of these meetings is to share experiences of the South African multi-party negotiations process in an effort to assist the Sri Lankan peace process," the ANC said in a statement. The Tamil Tigers delegation will also meet representatives of the South African Human Rights Commission, the national poll body and the Constitutional Court to discuss their experiences of coalition partnerships. "The ANC is committed to assist the parties in Sri Lanka to achieve a peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict in that country," the ANC said. "We hope that our own experience of an inclusive negotiations process may be of use to the different parties in Sri Lanka," it added. |
