| Ensure people's security in the east - JVP The JVP (People's Liberation Front) in a media release yesterday severely denounced the silence of the Government and its Minister Rauff Hakeem on the recent killings of three Muslim farmers who were protecting their crop in watch huts in the Thorombupathanjan village in Trincomalee. It stated that according to information available, the Muslim residents of the area are currently withdrawing themselves to Kinniya for refuge. "Under this so called peace process, there is not a single soul among the dollar grabbing NGOs or among Human Rights Protectors to utter a word against the LTTE brutalities perpetrated on the unarmed Muslim and Sinhala people living in the North and the East. All those who encourage directly or indirectly the LTTE cause of Tamil Eelam in the guise of peace process are responsible for atrocities of this nature targeting the exodus of Sinhala and Tamil people from the North and the East," it stated. "Now that the portfolio of Defence is under the President, the unarmed civilians in the North and the East must pressurise the President to take every possible step to ensure their safety and security and they must courageously stick to their native land without becoming cowardice in the face of LTTE arms," it added. |
