Patriotic National Movement urges action

The Patriotic National Movement in a media release yesterday stated that it is learnt that LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran's purported "Mahaveera Commemorative Day" speech was telecast alive world over under the sponsorship of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.

The United National Party lifted the proscription imposed on the LTTE Organization and legitimized the jungle radio transmission "Voice of Tigers" after providing it with necessary equipment. We cannot forget that the UNP Government, once upon a time brought the Television under the control of a person who is now operating the "Tamil Eelam Liberation Tigers' Voice" from Australia. That was the time the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation became the mass media arena to serve tiger terrorist interests, the media release stated.

In the light of President's conduct subsequent to her taking over the three ministries of Defence, Interior and Mass Communication, we have to presume that she based her decision upon the above mentioned factors.

Yet, this step on her part does not appear to be effective as even now we witness "Singrisi" type of poor quality programs over the electronic media, it said. Under the circumstances, the media release urged the President to conduct an immediate investigation in to the telecast of the Mahaveera Day Speech and take steps to remove all those responsible including the present Chairman, failing which the Movement will launch a continuous and massive protest opposite the Rupavahini Corporation.
