Sri Pada season begins on Dec. 8

Maskeliya group correspondent

The Annual Sri Pada season begins on the Unduwap Full Moon Day December 8 and ends on May Vesak Poya next year.

On the Seventh, the previous day of the Full Moon day, the Buddhas Relic from Ratnapura will be brought in a decorated Motor Car procession led by a Motor Bike escort. The car will tour from Ratnapura carrying the Relics of Lord Buddha and it will pass through Avissawella, Yatiyantota, Kitulgala, Ginigathena, Watawala, Hatton, Dickoya, Norwood and Maskeliya and reach Nallathannie last destination for the vehicle and from there the relics will be carried by the Chief Sri Pada Monk and followed by other monks to the top of Sri Pada walking. Special poojas and offerings of flowers to the Relics will be held at all spots by the public.

All Government Department officials have made arrangements to offer a very satisfactory service to the Sri Pada Pilgrims, on the advice of the Government Agent, Nuwara-Eliya. The Police have taken all steps to provide security to pilgrims from and to Sri Pada. It is widely expected that more pilgrims will climb Sri Pada this year than last year.
